Six Alexanders who signed the Mecklenburg Declaration **Rev. Joseph Alexander, D.D. (d. 1809) http://sdss4.physics.lsa.umich.edu:8080/~mckay/amckay/presbio.htm He graduated at Princeton College in 1760; was licensed by the New Castle Presbytery in 1767; the same year was installed pastor of the Sugar Creek Presbyterian Church, in North Carolina, where he established a classical school which soon established a high reputation. In a few years he became pastor of Union Church, South Carolina, where he remained until 1773, when he was installed pastor of Bullock's Creek Church, and continued to be so until 1801. Dr. Alexander was active in the cause of education in South Carolina as he had been in North Carolina. He was endowed with fine talents, and was an uncommonly animated and popular preacher. he was an ardent patriot throughout the Revolution. He died July 30th, 1809. |
